How can I better protect myself online?

 

Beware of phishing emails.
Betfair emails will always be sent in the same format and structure. We will never ask you to update your details/passwords by clicking on a link in an email. If at any time you wish to update your details, always log in to your account by going to the ‘My Details’ menu under ‘My Account’ on our website www.betfair.com. This also applies to emails from banks and other legitimate companies.

 

Please check your logins.
Go to the menu "My Account > My Account > My Details > Security Settings". From this menu, you can view your recent logins. If you identify any logins that you have not completed, please contact us for further guidance.

 

Do not share your username and password.
Never, under any circumstances, disclose your Betfair username and password to any third party. Memorize your username and password and make sure they are not easy to guess. It is never advisable to write these details down or store them on your computer.

 

Change your password regularly.
It is good security practice to change your password regularly. Having a specific password for Betfair, i.e. one that you do not use for other services, will also increase the security of your account. In other words, the more you share your secret, the greater the chances of it being leaked.

 

Never click on a link that supposedly takes you to the Betfair website.
You should always access the Betfair website by typing the address into your web browser. Fraudsters often try to direct you to a website where malicious software can be downloaded to your computer or run within your browser session.

 

Always log out of your Betfair account after you have finished using the site.
Failure to log out may leave your account exposed to attacks/hacking for a short period of time.

 

Be careful with emails from people you don't know or trust.
They can be harmful to your computer and the best practice is to delete them immediately.
